Tiddler Celestial is one of the most successful players in the world. taking second place finishes at WCA and Blizzcon last year. This year, he won Dreamhack Summer, a major international tournament. Along with Firebat, Tiddler holds the record for the most money won with in Hearthstone ever. In addition, he is one of the biggest community figures in the Chinese Hearthstone community. After hearing about the Patron nerf and watching Ben Brode's video, Tiddler wrote the following blog in Chinese and then translated it to English himself. Below is the unedited English version.
Blizzard, you can not be right all the time
A silence tribute to our once-favorite card – Warsong Commander, our once-favorite deck – Patron Warrior.

When I heard the news at first time, I did not think it could cause such dramatic influence within the community. However, when I turned on my PC and found that I received more than thousands replies talking about how much those true Hearthstone lovers complained about the nerf of Warsong Commander, I realized this modification, this so-called re-balance is properly the worst decision Blizzard has ever made. But what was more frustrating was the official explanation of this modification – reason being ‘after test few testaments, we think this is the best choice’. I think I can wait no more to express my feelings, I want to be the speakers of those who feels the same yet could not find a way to express. The great success of Hearthstone nowadays cannot blind us for these mistakes that might perish our favorite Hearthstone.
1. It was the players who created Patron Warrior, not Blizzard
Blizzard does not have the right to nerf the card simply because it hates the deck. This is such a perfect combination of a deck, it includes all the skills you ever need for a card game: timings to strike, timings to defend, timing to whether hit hero or kill minions. During the process of complete such fun deck, I think players are way ahead of Blizzard developers! Blizzard probably designed Secret Paladin and Dragon Priest on purpose, but Patron Warrior comes like a surprise sealed in the Christmas box and this box is delivered by no one or nothing but the combined wisdom of the whole Hearthstone community. The card – Warsong Commander, from all angles, it does not seem to be the most imbalanced card at all, the only possible reason to nerf the card is to nerf Patron Warrior as a deck. Before Grim Patron releases, Battle Rage/Warsong Commander/Frothing Berserker were rarely used in either tournaments or ladders. Only after the release of Grim Patrons, through many hard-workings and creative mind storms, all these specially designed Warrior cards have formed this nearly-perfect deck. Trust me, it’s not easy at all, and Blizzard cannot just take away the wisdom and creativity from us like this!
2. You can't just nerf a deck because it's strong
We always need those tier one decks to compete, comparing with other tier one decks, Patron Warrior’s advantage is relying heavily on gamers’ hard practice in daily games and perfect calculations during the actual matches. During the tournaments, comparing with other mainstream video games, Hearthstone severely lacks those sparks to ignite audiences! I dare to promise, all Chinese Hearthstone fans remember no other tournaments scene other than the one where ZHAO SHEN won the impossible match through his precise and fast calculations on the deck of Patrons Warrior. If you look at the current ladders, there are at least ten percent players playing on Patrons Warrior, nerfing Warsong Commander is no difference in deleting ten percent popular heroes in League of Legends, could you even imagine the possible outcome of that? You said you don’t want every Blizzcon player to bring a Patron Warrior with them, does that mean you want to see every player to bring Secret Paladin and Balanced Druid? Do you seriously want to see more RNG more luck in the future Hearthstone tournaments? There are many programmers got eliminated in the Road to Blizzcon qualifiers, does that mean they did not practice hard enough? Does that mean the famous players like Firebat and Koltento are not good enough?
3. You really should focus more on the real matters instead of these nonsense nerfs
I do believe the Tavern Brawl mode is a very good and bold attempt, but how about the rest? Design the adventure mode that is only one-time playable? Design an expansion pack that only has ten cards usable in the ladder? Or continue to force all tournaments to adopt the conquest format? Do you even know what we want? Where is our recording function and our replays? Where is our daily tournament mode? Where are those new possible decks? Don’t tell me the new decks are Dragon Priest and Secret Paladin, these decks has nothing to do with ‘FUN’ element. We want more abundant content not substituted content.
4. Please hear a voice from us
After the nerf of Warsong Commander, I have started a vote in China, I received over 3000 votes within ten hours, 88% of them are not happy with the change, nearly all casters and community celebrities were standing up to against this decision! If this cannot be the solid evidence to prove you are wrong to nerf the card, what else can make you face your misjudgment? Do you still think you are always right? I never consider the grand tournament expansion as a successful pack, from Naxx to TGT, none of them refreshes us, and lack of creativity keeps boring us. In TGT, Blizzard has kept promoting the system of Inspire, however, none of these function cards are being used in either tournaments or ladders, is this what you wanted from beginning? Dear develops, please have a look at the world outside, and there are thousand Hearthstone fans are willing to tell and talk!
5. You can't use a pale explanation to evade the fact you have taken away our beloved Patron
I hope you can at least offer us more reasons why you so determine to nerf this deck, the reason cannot be ‘you hate it, so it has to be done’, because despite the fact you hate it, it is adored across the globe!
In the end I would like to say pointing out a problem is always easier then actually solving it, and nothing can be amended to perfect condition in short term, we are grateful to Blizzard for designing such a fun card world for us to live and breathe in. It cuts deep because we love hard. I am pointing this out because I love this game this much along with other millions fans of the game! I hope my piece of opinion can be received by you, and I hope you could read this, even you could just give it a thought for a second, all these typings would worth it. I wish Hearthstone the best possible promising future, and long live our favorite Blizzard Entertainment.
